I was honored to be featured in a recent article on Smart Social about teens and social media. Children are receiving their phones right around the time they are entering the stage of human development in which peer engagement is critical. For pre-teens and teens, social media can be platform through which they compare themselves to others and focus on how they are missing out on the engagement others are having. As parents, not only do we need firm boundaries for our children when it comes to their devices and social media, we need them for ourselves.
In the article, a survey from Common Sense Media shares information on teens’ changing social media habits, including why some children and teens are more affected by their digital worlds than others. It is of course no surprise that teens’ and tweens’ usage is only going up.
